EPA & Eco-Friendly Options

Abatement of lead paint can be risky and dangerous, but we are EPA Lead Safe Certified. But why is that important? The EPA requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified professionals who are trained by EPA-approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices.

Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in paint and other products found in and around our homes. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities to seizures and death. Children six years old and under are at the highest risk.

One of the newer ways of dealing with Lead Abatement is ECOBOND® LBP. ECOBOND® LBP technologies have proven successful at providing a more effective solution for Lead Base Paint removal. The product is painted on and then seas and binds lead dust while providing treatment of the lead hazards allowing for disposal.

It is not very difficult to be green, and at Zelaya Painting, as in all of our divisions, we make every effort to be as eco-friendly as possible. We use environmentally friendly paints, such as Sherwin Williams GreenSure® line. These paints are produced with sustainable raw materials, like soy and sunflower oil. They have reduced the amount of solvent in their formulations. They are low or no *VOC and low odor. And many of their coatings are formulated to clean easily and to resist mold or mildew growth on the paint film, thus helping to improve the indoor and outdoor environments.

We also use Purdy® Eco Pro® Brushes, Roller Covers, and Trays. These are painting supplies made from recycled and environmentally friendly materials.

*Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects.
